Tools and their uses in the Blacksmith Shop.

The most basic tools are the hammer and the tongs.

The work needs to be held and the hammer is for stiking.

If it were to be reduced to one tool it would be the hammer .

Sometimes the work can be held in the hand depending on how far the hot end is

Away from the hand. A glove can offer some protection in this area.

Punches are another much used tool and are made from high tensile steel usually coil

Springs for dead cars . These are used to punch into hot metal and in this way holes

Are made allowing for riveting . Also the nail holes in horseshoes are made this way.
